Restoration or Repair Terms & Conditions

Antique Clock Repair & Restoration Services

Scope of Services

SHMILY & CO specializes in the inspection, maintenance, repair and restoration of antique and vintage clocks. Services may include cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, overhaul, parts fabrication and replacement, case and dial restoration, etc.

Estimates and Authorization

  • All maintenance, repair, or restoration work begins with an initial evaluation.
  • Estimates are provided based on visible and preliminary findings; additional issues may be discovered during repair.
  • Customer approval will be requested prior to proceeding with work exceeding the original scope of work and estimate.
  • Estimates are valid for 15 days unless otherwise stated.

Deposit and Payment Terms

  • A non-refundable deposit of 50% may be required before work begins.
  • Full payment is due upon completion and prior to release of the clock.
  • Accepted payment methods include Cash, Zelle, and Venmo.
  • Items not picked up within 7 days of notice of completion may incur a storage fee of $10.00 per day unless otherwise stated.

Turnaround Time

  • Repair timelines vary depending on the complexity of the work and availability of parts, raw materials, third party vendors, etc.
  • Estimated completion dates are provided as a guideline only and are not guaranteed.
  • Delays due to fabricating or sourcing rare or custom parts are common in antique clock repair.
  • Routine communication of progress will be provided by verbal or written processes once the clock is in progress

Parts and Materials

  • Replacement parts may be new, refurbished, or custom-fabricated.
  • Original parts will be retained where possible; however, replacement may be necessary for proper function.

Warranty

  • A limited warranty of one (1) year is provided on workmanship and parts installed by SHMILY & CO.
  • Warranty covers normal use only, and does not apply to:
    • Damage from misuse, neglect, or improper handling
    • Damage due to improper transport, or installation
    • Failure to follow setup, leveling, or maintenance instructions
    • Environmental damage (humidity, temperature extremes, water exposure)
    • Normal wear of components such as bushings, springs, or mechanical parts
    • Cosmetic issues (case wear, finish, glass, dial aging)
    • Damage caused by unauthorized repairs or modifications

Customer Responsibilities

  • Customer must disclose any known issues, prior repairs, or missing parts at the time of intake if known.
  • Clocks should be transported safely; SHMILY & CO is not responsible for damage incurred during transport to/from the shop.
  • It is the customer’s responsibility to pick up completed items within 7 days of notification of completion. 

Storage and Abandonment

  • Completed clocks not picked up within 7 days will incur storage fees of $10.00 per day unless other arrangements are made in advance
  • Items left unclaimed for more than 30 days will be considered abandoned and may be sold or disposed of to recover repair and storage costs, in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey.

Limitation of Liability

  • Antique clocks are inherently delicate and may have hidden defects.
  • While all care is taken, SHMILY & CO is not liable for:
    • Pre-existing damage or deterioration
    • Breakage due to age, brittleness, or prior repairs
    • Loss of value associated with restoration or replacement parts
  • Liability, if any, is limited to the cost of services performed.

Insurance

  • Customers are encouraged to maintain their own insurance coverage for valuable or rare clocks.
  • SHMILY & CO may carry general liability insurance but does not insure individual customer items unless explicitly agreed in writing.

Cancellations

  • Work may be canceled prior to commencement with no penalty beyond any diagnostic fees.
  • Once repair work has begun, cancellation may result in charges for labor and parts already incurred.
  • SHMILY & CO may discontinue or cancel the work for any reason at any time with notice to the customer. 

Photography and Documentation

  • SHMILY & CO reserves the right to photograph all clocks for documentation, insurance, or promotional purposes unless the customer requests otherwise in writing.

Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey without regard to conflict of law principles.

Agreement

By authorizing repair services, the customer acknowledges and agrees to these Terms and Conditions.
